Malibu Man Charged in Sexual Assault at SMC

By Lookout Staff

April 10 – A Malibu man suspected of sexually assaulting a Santa Monica College student at the campus library last weekend was charged with four felonies Thursday, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office.

Chase Guy Reynolds, 40, faces two counts of sexual battery by restraint, one count of attempted sexual penetration by a foreign object and one count of second degree robbery, the DA said.

Reynolds was arrested Tuesday after a joint investigation by the Santa Monica Police Department and Santa Monica College Police, said Sgt. Renaldi Thurston, the spokesman for the SMPD.

Reynolds allegedly approached a female student Sunday at the college's library and sexually assaulted her, then stole her house key, authorities said.

“The victim immediately reported the incident to the police,” Thurston said. “Detectives worked with the college police officers and the victim trying to identify the suspect.

“During the follow up investigation, the suspect returned to the campus and was detained by college police officers,” Thurston said.

Prosecutors will ask that bail be set at $250,000.

If convicted, Reynolds faces up to 13 years in state prison.

Anyone with information regarding this assault should call the Santa Monica Police Watch Commander at 310.458.8427 (24 hours) or Detective Lloyd Gladden at 310.458.8931.
