April 7 – Santa Monica police are looking for the driver of a black SUV that caused a chain collision on Pacific Coast Highway last month killing one person and injuring five then fled the scene.
The suspect was driving northbound on the 500 to 600 blocks of PCH at around 9 p.m. on March 26, when the vehicle suddenly swerved to the left from the right lane and hit a silver Lexus in the left lane, police said.
“The contact caused the Lexus to lose control and cross into the southbound lanes of traffic where it struck a Honda Accord head-on,” said Sgt. Renaldi Thurston, the Police Department spokesman.
The collision caused another collision with a separate vehicle traveling southbound, Thurston said.
The driver of the black SUV fled the scene without rendering aid or identifying himself or herself,” he said.
One person died at a local hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the collisions, and five other people sustained minor to moderate injuries, police said.
