Police
Seek Suspects in Sunday Shooting |
By Lookout Staff
October 28 – Police are looking for three or four
suspects in a drive-by shooting that wounded two Pico Neighborhood
residents near Virginia Avenue Park Sunday evening.
The suspects in what police believe is a gang-related shooting
were last seen in a silver sedan headed eastbound on Kansas Avenue,
police said. No weapons were recovered.
Police responding to a call from a traffic officer who heard
gunshots near Kansas Avenue and Cloverfield Boulevard found a
17-year-old Hispanic male at the scene with a gunshot wound, police
said.
Police investigation the shooting -- which was the third gang-related
incident last weekend -- found a second victim hiding in an apartment
located in the 2000 block of Cloverfield Boulevard.
While searching the apartment for any additional victims, officers
encountered a wanted parolee who barricaded himself in an upstairs
room with his girlfriend, said Sergeant Dave Hunscke, a police
departments spokesman.
Both eventually surrendered peacefully and were taken into custody,
Hunscke said.
Both male Hispanic shooting victims were transported to area
hospitals where they were treated for their wounds, police said.
There were three or four suspects in the vehicle wearing hooded
jackets, Hunscke said. Their race is unknown.
The shooting took place less than 24 hours after a drive-by shooting
in Mar Vista that left one man dead and one critically injured,
Saturday night. ("Weekend
Shootings Could Signal Gang War," October 27)
Authorities believe the gunmen are members of a Santa Monica
gang, and that Sunday’s shooting may have be carried out
in retaliation by members of a Venice gang.
The weekend of violence started with a report of shots fired
Friday night in a gang-riddled pocket of the Pico Neighborhood.
