CANVAS
Offers Inside Look at the Art

September 12 -- Deception,
politics and ambition surround the
commission of a painting by a well-known
Los Angeles artist in CANVAS, a new
play by G. Bruce Smith that premiers
Thursday at Electric Lodge in Venice.
The play offers an inside look at
how bureaucracy stifles creativity
in both a painter suffering artists’
block and a bureaucrat bursting to
create, but lacking an outlet.
Using flashbacks and fast forwards, the play
builds suspense, with the image on the covered
canvass assuming the all the mystery of a who-done-it.
In the end, the secrets that shroud the canvas
threaten to shatter lives.
Directed by Laura Black, CANVAS stars
Lily Sauvage, Peter James Smith and
Annmarie Hehir. The featured painting
is by Jeff Robinson and the lighting
design by Tiffany Williams.
The play contains adult situations, adult language
and nudity.
A presentation of Playwights 6, CANVAS
