September 11 -- Police are
looking for a man who fired at least
one gunshot just south of the Santa
Monica pier Monday afternoon, but
it is unclear if anyone was injured,
according to police.
The suspect, who is Black, was involved
in an argument with two Hispanic men
at around 3:45 p.m. on the 1700 block
of Ocean Front Walk, when one of the
men brandished a knife, according
to witnesses interviewed by police.
“The male Black then pulled out a handgun,
pointed it at the male Hispanics and a gunshot
was heard,” said Lt. Alex Padilla, the Police
Department spokesman.
It is not known how many gunshots were fired
or if any of the male Hispanics was injured, Padilla
said. The two men fled the scene walking southbound
on Ocean Front Walk.
After the gunshot was fired, the suspect fled
the scene, Padilla said.
Police secured the possible crime scene and processed
it for evidence, he said. It is unknown what type
of handgun was used, and no vehicle was seen.
The suspect is described as a male Black, 26
years old, 6’2 inches tall and 180 pounds,
police said. He has short dread locks and was
wearing no shirt and black and white plaid shorts.
Police are also looking for the victims
and have notified local hospitals,
Padilla said. The investigation is
ongoing.
“It could be self defense,
we don’t know,” Padilla
said. “We won’t know unless
we find a victim.”
