June 1 -- A man speeding through Downtown Santa
Monica on a stolen motorcycle during the start of morning
rush hour was killed when he slammed into a vehicle at an
intersection.
The man was headed southbound on Fourth Street at a high rate
of speed when he crashed into a car traveling west on Colorado
Avenue at around 7:40 a.m., said Lt. Alex Padilla, the Police
Department spokesman.
"He was going. . . 60 plus, blowing red lights when he
crashed into a vehicle on Colorado," said Padilla.
The motorcyclist died upon impact, while the driver of the
vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to the
hospital, Padilla said.
Police are still investigating the accident and theft.
The crash and subsequent investigation, which took place as
many were beginning their workday Downtown, delayed traffic
for several hours Thursday.
