July 11 -- In a densely packed part of town, the
new Euclid Park, which will open Sunday, could be viewed as
the community’s backyard, a place to hang out and even
do a little gardening.
Less than a half acre, the small park will feature shade
trees, a trellis, seats and a swing set and climber for children.
It also includes a gardening area with ten plots – two
of them on accessible, raised planters -- and an area for
gardening classes.

Designed by the team of Rios Clementi Hale Studios and artist
Abbie Baron, the park in the 1500 block of Euclid Street between
Colorado Avenue and Broadway, is the result of an extensive
community design process that included a survey and half a
dozen community and public board meetings.
Part of a combined parks and housing development, the park
will be located next to Hacienda del Mar, a 13-unit residence
for people with disabilities. The historic 1928 brick Spanish
Colonial Revival building, formerly a Los Angeles County Health
Facility, was renovated by the United Cerebral Palsy in 2003.
The development of Euclid Park is part of the City’s
Parks and Recreation Master Plan, a 20-year plan for more
than $142-million worth of improvements to Santa Monica’s
parks, open spaces, and community facilities.
It is the second City-built park in 24 years to open in 2007.
Airport Park opened on April 29.
Euclid Park is served by Big Blue Bus Line 5 daily, and Line
11 on Monday through Friday and is accessible for persons
with disabilities. For disability-related accommodation requests,

Parking for the Sunday July 15 opening will be available
at the Santa Monica Seafood east lot, on the northwest corner
