August 28 -- A man who had
been sleeping in his truck was shot
when he chased his assailants near
Virginia Avenue Park early Tuesday
morning, police said.
The victim was parked on the 1900 block of Cloverfield
Boulevard, when one of more assailants broke the
driver’s side window sometime after 4 a.m.,
awakening him, police said.
The suspects fled on foot, said Lt. Alex Padilla,
the Police Department spokesman.
“The victim drove his truck and chased
the suspects who turned west onto Virginia Avenue,”
Padilla said. “As the victim drove down
the street, several gunshots were fired towards
the truck.”
One of the gunshots struck the victim in the
upper body and he drove himself to the hospital,
where he was treated for a non-life threatening
wound, Padilla said.
Police received a call from a local hospital
at 4:40 a.m. informing the department that a gunshot
victim had just walked into their hospital, Padilla
said.
Officers interviewed the victim at the hospital,
he said.
This investigation is ongoing and at this time
the police department does not have any suspect
information.
