Two Motorists Arrested at DUI Checkpoint By Lookout Staff September 18 – Police arrested two motorists, issued eight citations and towed seven vehicles at a Santa Monica checkpoint Friday night. Part of the “You Drink and Drive. You Lose” national campaign, the Driver’s License and Sobriety checkpoint was conducted between 8:45 p.m. and 1 a.m. on the 3200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, police said. A total of 888 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 284 vehicles were screened by the Traffic Program, led by the Santa Monica Police Department, said Lt. Frank Fabrega, the police department spokesman. The checkpoint was conducted, along with neighboring police departments
in Culver City and Beverly Hills, in accordance with the State of California
- Office of Traffic Safety grant, Fabrega said. “The goal of this program is aimed at educating and bringing awareness
to our community, while at the same time detecting and removing drivers
who drive under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and irresponsible
drivers from our roadways,” Fabrega said. |
