Man Arrested for Attempted Murder January 31 -- Police arrested a transient suspected of stabbing a man numerous times Sunday evening near the Santa Monica Freeway at 7th Street. Chester Cornelius White, a 55-year-old black homeless man, was booked for attempted murder, according to police. His bail was set at $527,500. Police were led by witnesses to White after officers responding to a reported stabbing found a Male victim lying unconscious on the side walk on the 1600 block of 7th Street, said Lt. Frank Fabrega, the police department spokesman. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition, Fabrega said. His injuries included seven stab wounds to his face, arms, torso and a punctured lung.
