Bundy Campus Offers Free ESL Classes By Lookout Staff September 21 -- Santa Monica College is offering free English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to anyone who wants to learn English -- no questions asked. The classes begin on October 23 and will be held at the newly opened Bundy Campus at Santa Monica Airport. “We’re excited to be offering these noncredit classes to the huge population of non-native English speakers in the Los Angeles area who want to improve their English for careers and a wide variety of reasons,” said Erica LeBlanc, assistant dean of the college’s Continuing and Community Education program. Unlike students taking the ESL program offered at the main Pico campus, people who sign up for the Bundy classes will not have to provide proof of residency such as a student visa to enroll. The classes will be held on weekdays, evenings and weekends for students at all levels of English proficiency to improve their listening, speaking, reading, writing and conversation skills. People from all over the world are taking ESL classes at the college, including students from Brazil, Iran, Korea, Ethiopia, and the former Soviet Bloc. Many are Spanish speakers and students from the Middle East who speak Arabic, college officials said. To enroll, visit Room 112 at 3171 S. Bundy Drive, Los Angeles between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday or Friday, or between 8:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday or Thursday. Parking is free at the lot immediately south of the campus across Airport Avenue. |
