SAMOHI Coach Charged with Unlawful Sex with Minor By Jorge Casuso June 6 -- A junior varsity coach at Santa Monica High School has been arrested and charged with unlawful sex with a minor, police said Thursday. Michael David Hearn, who coaches football and basketball, was arrested Wednesday by Santa Monica Police Detectives on the 600 block of Pico Boulevard, where the high school is located. The victim was not a student in the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District, said Superintendent John Deasy. “The victim was not and has never been a student at the district,” Deasy said. Hearn, who was also arrested for traffic warrants, has been suspended until the full investigation is completed, he said. “We were informed of the issue by police,” Deasy said. “They’ve been very helpful in working with us on this issue.” A 37-year-old resident of Los Angeles, Hearn was charged with one count of unlawful sex with a minor by the Los Angeles District Attorney Thursday. Hearn had been the subject of an on-going sexual assault investigation by Santa Monica Police. He was taken to the Santa Monica Jail. Bail was set at $42,174. |
