City Launches Redesigned Site By Olin Ericksen June 1 -- Those surfing the net for Santa Monica's homepage may be pleasantly surprised to find it has been replaced by a sleek, new website that appears to be riding a wave into the future. Launched Tuesday, Santa Monica's new City homepage -- Santa-monica.org -- still offers 20,000 web pages of information and on-line services while serving over 1 million pages every month. New multiple navigation schemes, an enhanced Customer Services Directory and a searchable on-line business directory are all new features that users will find at their fingertips Yet the most notable difference for users may be the enhanced graphics. Gone are the pong-style antiquated animations that dominated the old site launched in 1998. In their place is an updated moving sequence of several recognizable Santa Monica cityscapes, including the pier, Cloverfield Park and Santa Monica College. "The site is designed to be used as a local portal site by those who live, work or go to school in Santa Monica," said Kieth Kurtz, the City's internet systems coordinator. "The City has long been recognized as an innovator in the on-line delivery of municipal information and services,” Kurtz said. “The new site makes it possible to continue in that tradition." |
