Homeless Man Arrested for Assault

By Lookout Staff

December 13 -- Police arrested a homeless man Friday after he struck two people in the face, one of them an 80-year-old man, police said.

In the first incident, Christopher Grant Williams, 44, entered the Starbucks on the 700 block of Montana Avenue at around 10 a.m. and began creating a disturbance, police said.

When an employee asked him to leave, Williams jumped over the counter and struck the victim with his fist, said Lt. Frank Fabrega, the police department spokesman. The suspect then left the store.

Officers responding to the incident received information regarding a second assault and battery in the area of Lincoln Boulevard and Montana.

“The suspect fled on foot and within minutes approached another victim… and without provocation struck the victim several times,” Fabrega said.

A field show-up was conducted and the suspect was positively identified. Williams was arrested and taken to the Santa Monica Jail, where he was booked for elder abuse and assault and battery.

His bail was set at $50,000.

The Starbucks employee received a small laceration to his lip that did not require medical treatment.

The 80-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital with a laceration above his eyebrow that required four stitches.

Anyone having additional information regarding these incidents should call the Santa Monica Police Department at 310-458-8491.
