Burglary Suspect at Large

By Lookout Staff

Dec. 5 -- The hunt for an armed man wanted in connection with a reported burglary led to a lockdown of an elementary school as police cordoned off an area of the Pico Neighborhood Thursday afternoon, police said.

Police searched the area after responding to a report of a burglary in progress at 12:36 p.m. in the 1900 block of High Place, a block from Edison Elementary.

The victim, who fled the scene, told police that the suspect may have been armed with a hand gun and was possibly still in the residence, said Lt. Frank Fabrega, the police department spokesman.

Officers, who responded immediately to the scene, cordoned off the Virginia Avenue between Cloverfield Boulevard and 27th Street and conducted an extensive search.

The suspect -- described as a heavy-set Hispanic man between 25 and 35 years of age and sporting a moustache -- was still at large Thursday afternoon.

When school let out all the children were told to leave through the front on the Kansas Avenue side and were in no danger, Fabrega said.
