Body Washes Ashore By Lookout Staff August 18 -- Police are investigating the death of a man whose body washed ashore on the beach early Monday morning. The body was located by police after responding to a call shortly before 5 a.m. that a body had been spotted in the surf near the 1300 block of Pacific Coast Highway, said Lt. Frank Fabrega, the police department spokesman. The body did not appear to have been in the ocean very long, Lifeguard Capt. David Story, who went to the scene, told the Associated Press. The man was wearing ``street clothes" -- shorts, a shirt and socks -- but had "no shoes,'' Story said. There were no reports of missing swimmers this weekend, Story added. The County Coroner responded to the scene and is assisting in the investigation Fabrega said. An autopsy will determine the cause of death. "The cause of death is undetermined, and no identification has been made," Fabrega said. "We're not ruling out anything." Santa Monica police will be in charge of the investigation. |
