Services for LaVerne King Weaver, 66, who served on numerous community
boards and commissions will be held today, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. at Gates
Kingsley & Gates Funeral Home, 1925 Arizona Avenue.
A native of Midland Texas, King was involved in everything from fundraising
activities with actresses Debbie Reynolds and Ruta Lee to assist emotionally
disturbed children to raising funds for the Girls Club to serving as a
consultant for state assembly campaigns.
King served on the Financial Development Committee for the Santa Monica
YMCA, as a board member for the Santa Monica Historical Society and as
a volunteer for activities for ACTION Apartment Association in Santa Monica.
"Valor is not necessarily defined as heroism on a battlefield, but
rather as resolution, capability, intelligence, tenacity, backbone and
just plain guts," said Gwen Wunder, executive director of ACTION.
"LaVerne King Weaver was indeed a woman of valor. We all counted
on LaVerne to bring a project to a successful conclusion."
King is survived by her daughters, Kelly Jo King Lasky and Tami King,
two grandchildren and her husband, Raymond Weaver.
