Virginia Avenue Park Expansion Project Meeting

The City of Santa Monica and the Virginia Avenue Park Expansion Working Group will host a community meeting at Virginia Avenue Park on Thursday, July 29, 1999 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to present and discuss ideas for the planned expansion of the park. The meeting is the third in a series of "Working Group" meetings planned over the summer to formulate plans for two recently purchased parcels totaling 3/4 of an acre at the northeast corner of 21st Street and Pico Boulevard adjacent to the park.

The meeting will feature a recap of the July 12th meeting and a presentation and discussion of options for development of the expanded park site. A nine-member Working Group has been formed to make recommendations on the use and design of the new parcels, both of which have existing buildings on them. Representatives on the Working Group include three Recreation and Parks Commissioners, three Virginia Avenue Park Advisory Board members, one Planning Commissioner and two youth representatives. Plans have already been drafted to expand the existing 5.8-acre park onto the adjacent 2.9-acre parcel at the northwest corner of Pico and Cloverfield Boulevards.

Virginia Avenue Park is located at 2200 Virginia Avenue, just north of the intersection of Pico and Cloverfield Boulevards in Santa Monica, and is served by Santa Monica Bus Line No. 7. The park is accessible for persons with disabilities. For accommodation needs, please call 458-8701 or TTY: 458-8696.
