June 30, 2021 Dear Editor, Once again the property owner and the housing provider that create housing for tenants across the state have been put in an impossible position ("Santa Monica Extends Eviction Moratorium," June 28, 2021). The extension barring evictions for any normal reason not only affects the property owner but the entire economic landscape, as well as any freedoms we enjoy in our democratic country. This is a major issue -- that the government has such power it can destroy the income of the housing provider, while putting the tenant in such an elevated position. The moratorium will lead to bankruptcy for hard working folks and allow the government to destroy private property rights. My fellow Americans, especially Santa Monica residents, what do you think will happen when the government targets you when your income is denied? When your rights are taken away you will become a slave of the state... Let that sink in -- you and your family will be slaves of the state. You will not be able to travel as you wish, marry who you wish, buy a home, rent an apartment, or have a job without governmental approval. I am an expert in the rental housing market and have served on the Santa Monica Rent Control Board. I understand my Santa Monica Renters' Rights (SMRR) opponents have influenced the City of Santa Monica and Los Angeles, as well as the elected officials in Sacramento. To be totally clear, their sweeping powers were given by you the voter. You have authorized their outrageous behavior and their true destruction of the freedoms you enjoy. Robert Kronovet |
