LETTERS -- Santa Monica Property Owners Need to Wake Up
December 18, 2019
Dear editor,
Once again the entire Santa Monica City Council -- comprised of 100 percent Santa Monica Renters' Rights candidates -- has thrown another wedge into the supply and demand housing equation.
What could be more outrageous than our hard-earned tax dollars paying legal services for tenants who have violated their lease, haven't paid rent, have personal issues with the property owner or have been a general nuisance?
Once again the property owner is isolated, dehumanized and set adrift in the hostile landscape of California housing. It's no wonder we are in a housing crisis.
Under Tuesday's City Council motion, property owners would be financing both sides in the courtroom ("Santa Monica Moves to Offer Free Representation to Tenants Facing Eviction," December 11, 2019).
This biased financial responsibility is a volition of the 1964 & 1967 Civil Rights Act and fosters a true war against property owners.
I suggest that this is what the left wants in California -- the total destruction of private property rights.
This is my sober position, made quite clear to me during my tenure as a Rent Control Board member, licensed broker and a leading expert in property management and residential housing in California.
My advise to property owners: WAKE UP.
