Signs and Hypocrites March 4, 2002 Dear Editor, As I drive around Santa Monica I'm struck by how many signs I see promoting property rights (Proposition A) and opposing war. Funny thing is, I have never seen both on the same lawn. Does this informal survey mean that the property rights folks think we also have right to invade Iraq's property? Does it conversely mean that those who oppose war are also for preserving our own community's cultural heritages? Just wondering. Alan Toy March 3, 2002 Dear Editor, Architectural treasures huh? ("Prop A Backers, Opponents Square Off," February 28) Well how about Fisher Lumber, since 1923 and now the city is enabling the developers to tear it down in 2005 to build new (mixed-use) housing. If they can allow developers to do that, then why not homeowners? I suppose the city needs to up its tax base. We will all have to make the drive to Home Depot and use more gasoline to filth the air just so the "Hacks" in City Hall can grease their palms even more. Bunch of hypocrites! Harry Williams |
