Firefighters Tour RTE 66 Firehouses to Raise Funds

A group of firefighters arrived in Santa Monica Wednesday after embarking on a Route 66 motorcycle tour from New Mexico to raise funds for the International Association of Fire Fighters' (IAFF) Fallen Fire Fighters Foundation.

The group began the tour in Farmington, New Mexico and visited firehouses en route to raise funds for the foundation.  They arrived at Santa Monica Fire Station 5 on Wednesday.

During the journey they raised funds that will be donated to the foundation to assist families after a loved one has been killed in the line of duty. The Firefighter who organized the event is from Farmington New Mexico and has spent the last year working on a Fire House Cook Book “Farmington Favorites.”

He and other Firefighters rode through seven states and visited at least 20 fire stations along the way, where they treated the fire crews and invited guests to a meal, cooked by the event organizer and the rest of the tour group, from selections out of his cook book.

The group arrived at Fire Station 5 in Santa Monica, 2450 Ashland Avenue, Wednesday afternoon and were escorted to the station by Santa Monica Firefighters riding motorcycles. The Santa Monica Firefighters hosted a dinner and presenting a donation for $500.00 during the event.
