August 17, 2017 -- The 33rd annual Twilight Concert Series wraps up Thursday evening when LA-based indie quartet Warpaint brings its blend of art rock, dream pop and psychedelic rock to the century old pier.

Known for creating dreamy, atmospheric textures anchored by a pulsing hypnotic beat, the band has been expanding its local following since its self-released debut album "Exquisite Corpse" climbed to the top of Amoeba Records local artist chart nearly ten years ago.

By the time Warpaint's fourth EP "Heads Up" was released last year, the band's sound was turning the heads of some of the nation's top pop music taste makers.

"L.A.'s Warpaint deliver their dream-rock mysticism with such chill confidence and casual concision you almost miss all the different sounds they pull together," Rolling Stone wrote in its September 2016 review of the album.

Warpaint, wrote New York Times critic Jon Pareles, "places its songs at that complicated intersection: where a grid of repetition meets the amorphous crosscurrents of emotion and desire."

"Altogether," music critic Jon Caramanica wrote in the Times in 2010, the band's sound "makes for ethereal, shoegaze-y postpunk, an amalgam of naïve beauty and knowing pomp."

In concert, the band often pairs the moodiness of its recordings with "bumped-up tempos and sinewy beats," concert promoters said.

When the band hits an emotional peak live, Pareles wrote, the result can be hypnotic.

Warpaint is composed of vocalist/guitarist Emily Kokal, vocalist/guitarist Theresa Wayman, bassist/vocalist Jenny Lee Lindberg and drummer/keyboardist Stella Mozgawa.

The concert's opening act is Wild Belle, a new duo of siblings Natalie and Elliot Bergman whose sound is "rooted on a tropical island where rocksteady rhythms, disco beats and soulful grooves shine down steadfast and abundant," concert promoters said.

Once again, DJs from media partner KCRW will present the concert, which is co-produced by RH&S Concerts, a partnership between Spaceland Presents and Rum & Humble.
