By Lookout Staff November 7, 2011 -- Police are searching for a possibly homeless suspect who assaulted a man seated on a bus bench at Wilshire Boulevard near 7th Avenue in Santa Monica, leaving him in critical condition. The victim was sitting on the bus bench on the southwest corner of the street on October 28, when he was approached from behind by the suspect, who was walking westbound. The suspect struck the victim on the right side of his head. “The force of the blow caused the victim to fall to the ground,” said Sgt. Richard Lewis, the Police Department spokesman. “The victim managed to look up and see the suspect, who he believes is homeless, walk westbound on Wilshire Boulevard, while holding a large rock or stone in his hand,” Lewis said. The victim was able to call 9-1-1 and report the crime, he said. The victim -- who sustained major injuries to his head -- was transported
to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
