By Lookout Staff

September 10, 2010 -- The City of Santa Monica will release its annual Sustainable City Report Card, which updates Santa Monica's progress toward becoming a sustainable city, on Tuesday September 21.

The City's office of Sustainability and the Environment (OSE) will host a breakfast for invited guests at 8:30 a.m. at the Martin Luther King Auditorium in Santa Monica Main Library, 601 Santa Monica Boulevard.

A presentation for the general public will be held that evening at the same location between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.

This year marks the sixteenth anniversary of the Sustainable City Plan and the sixth year in a row the City releases a report card, which measures eight goal areas in which City officials have tried to improve and enhance natural, social and economic resources.

Grades for the eight goal areas – resource conservation, environmental and public health, transportation, economic development, open space and land use, community education and civic participation, housing and human dignity – are quantitative measures, while grades for effort in each category are qualitative.

The library is accessible by Big Blue Bus lines 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9 and 10; and is located two blocks from the Transit Mall. Wheelchair accessible, to request disability related accommodations please call (310) 458-2213 or email environment@smgov.net.
