John Wayne Cancer Institute Chosen as Beneficiary of 2006 Vons/Pavilions Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

The John Wayne Cancer Institute’s Breast Cancer Research program has been chosen as a local beneficiary of the 2006 Vons/Pavilions Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, which has a goal of raising $6 million in October for a range of breast cancer research and treatment programs.

During October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, shoppers at selected Vons and Pavilions stores in West Los Angeles, Santa Monica and parts of the South Bay (full list below) will be able to support the campaign by:

  • Buying pink ribbons at check-out stands
  • Buying $1 root beer floats at booths outside stores
  • Participating in a 5K walk on October 18 at 9:30 a.m. in Hermosa Beach

JWCI will also be selling root beer floats October 28 at the local Santa Monica Vons/Pavilions stores.

Along with the fundraising efforts, Vons/Pavilions will be raising awareness of breast cancer, which is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths among women.

Public service messages will appear during October in a range of different retail media, including the company’s in-store radio network, on electronic point-of-sale screens at the check-out stand, on in-store signage, in weekly sales circulars and on the company’s Web site.

The mission of the John Wayne Cancer Institute is to conduct interdisciplinary basic, clinical, and translational research, and to apply that knowledge to advance modern cancer treatment.

JWCI's internationally recognized team of scientists and clinical researchers is dedicated to investigating and studying numerous types of cancer in an unrelenting effort to find a cure or control for each cancer.
